Self-publishing: how to do it

Self-publishing is becoming a popular option as it can often take years to bring a book to market with a mainstream publisher. With self-publishing, you are also in control of the entire process, which means that the final product is exactly what you want.

Self-publishing is particularly useful for businesses or 'experts' who know that a book will add credibility to their reputation. Sandra Cabot's uber-successful "Liver Cleansing Diet" started off as a self-published book.

There are also many books by motivational speakers (Passion Driven by Lee Powell), real estate how-tos (The Insiders Guide to Buying Real Estate by Patrick Bright) and even fiction (The Kurrajongs by Ian Small - now in it's fourth print run), that are self-published.

It's great to see people who are interested in self-publishing - which is really almost like running a small business. We run a seminar at the Sydney Writers' Centre that has helped numerous people along their self-publishing journey. This seminar will condense three months worth of research into a succinct two hours - it's something I wish had been available before I invested three months of research into the process!
