It's never too late - to win a Logie

Last week, I was thrilled to meet Tim Palmer, an ABC journalist who has interviewed the who's who of world leaders, covered stories from war zones and disaster areas - and won several Walkleys (journalism's answer to the Oscars) in the process.

Tim and I were part of a group of seven people (including Kylie Taylor, my business partner in Taylor & Khoo) being awarded the UTS Alumni Awards.

I was inspired by Tim's speech when he mentioned that he was a "late-blooming student" meaning he kicked around a couple of other career ideas and vocational pursuits before discovering his passion for journalism.

While Kylie and I were honoured to win the UTS Alumni Leadership Award, Tim won the UTS Professional Achievement Award, then topped off his week by adding a Logie to his name on Sunday night! He won the logie for Most Outstanding News Coverage for Aceh: Last Man Standing on the ABC. Great work.

It goes to show that it's just never too late. And if you are thinking of a career change later in life, take heart. Because it's certainly possible. Tim shows that you can carve a successful career no matter when you start it.
